Clutter Reduction and Object Detection in Surface Penetrating Radar

چکیده
This paper addresses the problem of detecting buried objects using a surface penetrating impulse radar. A big problem is that reeections from the ground surface will obscure the often much weaker target signal. The ground reeections and the target signal are mod-eled using a very simple model. This model is used to derive a detector based on a Likelihood Ratio Test, where unknown model parameters are estimated using a Maximum Likelihood approach. Even though the model is very simple, the detector is found to perform well. The detector is evaluated using real data from an impulse radar system. Both metallic and non-metallic buried objects can successfully be detected.

Effect of Curved Path Monopulse Radar Platform’s Grazing Angle on Height of Floated Targets Detection
Monopulse radarsare one of the most accurate tracking radars used to guide various platforms. Detection and tracking of surface targets with these radars are performed in order to point strike targets. Sea clutter presents challenges for detecting floated targets and in addition to affecting detection height, it can cause errors in monopulse angle finding. In this paper, the airborne monopulse ...
متن کاملRadar Signal Detection in K-distributed Clutter by Pade Approximation
In this paper, two suboptimum detectors are proposed for coherent radar signal detection in K-distributed clutter. Assuming certain values for several initial moments of clutter amplitude, the characteristic function of the clutter amplitude is approximated by a limited series. Using the Pade approximation, it is then converted to a rational fraction. Thus, the pdf of the clutter amplitude is o...

متن کاملFalse Alarm Reduction of Ground Penetrating Radar
In this work, we present a methodology for fusing high frequency and low frequency radar images. The goal of this system is to nd the strong surface clutter which is common to high and low frequency radar images and to subtract (defuse) this common component from the low frequency image to extract sub-surface information.
متن کاملFusion of forward-looking infrared camera and down-looking ground penetrating radar for buried target detection
In this paper, we propose a system to detect buried disk-shaped landmines from ground penetrating radar (GPR) and forward-looking long wave infrared (FL-LWIR) data. The data is collected from a test area of 500m 2 , which was prepared at the IPA Defence, Ankara, Turkey. This test area was divided into four lanes, each of size 25m length by 4m width and 1m depth. Each lane was first carefully cl...
